Day of the Dead!
This is the best time of the year. Halloween is one of my favorite holidays, trumped only by the awesomeness that is Day of the Dead.
For those of you unfamiliar with the holiday, Day of the Dead (or Dia de Los Muertos if you habla the Espanol) is a wonderful holiday in Latin American cultures that celebrates the passing of loved ones by creating elaborate altars (called Ofrendas) to honor that person’s life. The idea is that the dead return to their homes, enjoy earthly pleasures like tequila and sweet bread, while their families dote on them, give them cool things like sugar skulls and enjoy each others company over memories of the dearly departed. Day of the Dead is colorful, devotional and full of family love - seriously, what better way to honor someone’s life than to gather in their memory!
One of my favorite parts of the holiday is making sugar skulls! These bright decorations can turn your ho hum mantle into a beautiful altar in 5 seconds flat!
Which is where Tobiah comes in.
This year our very own Licorice Tree (Tobiah the amazing - who is about to be a mama! Congrats girl!) is offering a sugar skull class!
