Crafting for a Cause

Posted by Sarah on Aug 03, 2008

Hey Hey crafty peeps!

We have taken a hiatus from Crafting for a Cause for two months, but it’s back and better than ever! This month’s Crafting for a Cause will be a craft-a-long project - one that you can do at home using an easy tutorial. Crafting, pajamas and helping others? Sounds like the perfect Sunday to me!

The project for August will be to make Morsbags! Morsbags are perfect grocery totes - they’re made from recycled material (old bedsheets, duvet covers or tarps) and help the environment by taking one less plastic bag out of the rotation. Bags will be donated to local retirement communities and shelters to help the residents make their trips to the store brighter!

The Sew Crafty Pod has a goal of making 25 Morsbags in the month of August with your help! Send us a shout and let us know how many bags you would like to contribute, make the bags and then meet us up at Sew Crafty anytime. We will even have a celebration later this month that the bag angels can attend - expect prizes, cupcakes and good old fashioned crafty fun!

For downloadable tutorials on how to make Morsbags, visit their website and click on “make one.”

Shorts!

Posted by Sarah on Jul 29, 2008

As anyone else who is from around these parts will tell you, shorts are an essential wardrobe staple almost year round in Houston. Why not learn to make your own in our beginner-level class? Abby Wright (one of the sewing goddesses with the American Sewing Guild) will take you though one of three variations in this simple-but-stylish pattern!

Etsy Sunday - Felt Food!

Posted by Sarah on Jul 27, 2008

I’m not advocating eating something made of felt. Once, a a piece of felt accidentally landed in my mouth (this is why craft and sandwiches don’t go together on the dining room table) and it was nasty. Not “Eww! Brussel sprouts!” nasty - “Oh my God! What is this?!?!?” nasty. I shudder at the thought of this as I type…

However, I would risk that taste again if there’s a chance these felt food creations from Lookmamamadeit taste as good as they look!

I’m back!!!

Posted by Sarah on Jul 25, 2008

Yes that’s right - Sarah “Craftypants” Gabbart is back! I have missed Houston, enjoyed Ireland’s finest cuisine (black and white “pudding” anyone? Bleh.) and sampled the local “crafts”. One think I learned in Ireland is that “craft shop” means “tourist trap” - leprechauns, Guinness and Guinness glasses with leprechauns on it. Fooey! So there I was, thousands of miles from home and craftless downer

But now I’m back home (yay!) and ready to roll with the crafts! I’m so ready, as a matter of fact, that I am going to drop the price of Sewing Lounge time to $5 an hour for the rest of the summer. It’s usually $15 an hour, but I wanted to thank all of you guys for being so awesome and supportive of Sew Crafty! So get your fabric and notions together, dust off that old project and sign up online to book your spot - I have a feeling that they are going to go pretty fast…
